Module: Disaster Management and Public Health (including Ecohealth approach, climate change and health)
This Lecture aims at introducing basic concepts of global health, adaptation to climate change and/or variability through weather and climate extreme events mainstreaming and management, and disaster risk reduction with a particular emphasis on health impacts. In the first part are presented some facts, figures and basic concepts on climate and health relationship, global change, climate change, global health, Ecosystem approach to health (Ecohealth approach), water, sanitation and hygiene, and disasters characterization. The second part presents main tools for vulnerabilities and capacities assessment within the framework of a disaster risk management cycle. The third part involves the participants in a concrete group work and field integrated investigation exercise in targeted vulnerable areas for a rapid assessment of vulnerabilities and capacities. The fourth part presents various cross cutting concepts towards action that include the political dimensions, gender, early warning systems, mainstreaming and Hyogo framework.
